A life changing event ...APRIL 27, 2011

The day started out beautiful but was excepting horrific weather to set in late afternoon. However, we did not have any idea it was going to be as bad as it ended up. Pa went to Tuscaloosa that morning and brought Memama back to Hueytown to stay with him for the night since he had a basement and she didn't. Thank the God Lord he did. Anyway, schools let out early and I left work a little early trying to get the kids feed and in a safe place before the weather got bad. When we got to Mom's she had ordered pizza for us so we could all eat before the lights / bad weather hit. Anyway, Tammy and the kids were there at Daddy and Mom's too and so we had decided to go to Pa's to ride the storm out at his house since we don't have a basement either. However, before leaveing to go to his house we ate the pizza Mom had ordered and during our dinner we notice on TV the meterologist screaming look at how big this tornado is coming through downtown Tuscaloosa. So we get up from the table and start screaming because we could see everything around Memama's being destroyed in front of our eyes and not able to do anything about it. It was the worst feeling. So we get the kids and fly to Pa's. Amy and her family were also there. We had all the kids, Memama and Amy and I in the closet under the steps with things over the kids head and cell phones on all the kids. Luke, Dave, Micheal and Pa are upstairs still watching the news and looking out. Luke and Dave start screaming down to us take cover we are coming we can see things falling from the sky and hear it and our ears were all popping. Thank the God Lord it went didn't get us but was only 1/4 of a mile from our house. Dave took out right afterwards head towards Pleasant Grove because it was headed straight for their house to check on their home. Our home, Pa's, Amy, and my parent's home were all fine. Poor Memama's house was damaged with the garage completely destroyed. Concord was pretty much wiped out, as well as most of Pleasant Grove. It was so heart wrenching seeing our friends suffer. Eric broke his back from Julie's grandmother's house falling in on him (she lived in Concord). Just a sad sad sad day. We spent several days/weeks after the storms volunteering. Of course getting Memama's house secure was our 1st priority. She was heart broken over all the damage. Tuscaloosa will never be the same.
